Reworking a Hira Zukuri katana

Rate this Entry
Hi guys, it's been a while since I posted here. I started to work on a hira zukuri blade (http://www.swordnarmory.com/Munetoshi-Yuki-Samgakdo-Hira-Korean-Gumdo-Sword-Ma-p/kh-187.htm), and it's harder yet easier than a regular shinogi zukuri blade. It's harder because you cannot round the edge too much, like a shinogi zukuri, yet you don't have to worry about making the ridgeline crisp, because there is no ridgeline =D. However, for this sword, it will be the most work I have done to a katana. I was asked to sharpen the katana and take out the double bevel (I will most likely have to repolish the whole thing) then shorten the blade a little bit, while making the kissaki longer and to try to move the point of balance back towards the tsuba. I will also rewrap the tsuka (most likely with cotton for now) and I have other little things to work on with this sword. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures of the blade as it was, but I am halfway in the sharpening process after working on it for about 3 hours with a 1000 grit and 4000 grit waterstone. I will post again with pictures soon hopefully.
