The importance of Training

Rate this Entry
Today, I realized that I need to train harder than I have been in quite a while. Because of my heavy school load and work, not to mention my travel time to school, then to work, and back takes quite alot of my time in the day, that training seems to get set to the back of my daily plans. I was hoping to train on friday after my shift, for which I actually planned out w/ my training partner, but was suddenly cancelled, so now I am going to try to train after I get home that night. I will be implimenting(did I spell that right?) the 1000 cut practice that a few of the guys at the shop are training w/ and from the looks of it, seems to work well. I'd like to train more in the week, but as of now my training will be limited to 1 to 2 days a week, 2 hours max. Lets see how it turns out in a months time, if I am progressing or still at the same place in my cutting.
I will post weekly reports on my training and hopefully it will be enough for me to improve till next year when I can add more days to train.
Till next week....

What I really need to do is train when not just cutting targets. I have recently started working on ghost draw cuts, practicing the movements with an iaito very slowly and then gradually moving up to real time. I am in all honesty leary of this cut, because it is so easy to slice through the saya and then tragedy WILL strike. I am really taking my time while developing this cut, so that I can do it with confidence and keep all of my digits in tact.
    Salute!

I am currently working on formalizing the sword art part of my training as best I can. I keep written logs of everything I do training and teaching but the sword stuff has been a little like footnotes. Paying more attention, I am seeing some things that need to be addressed. I will share as this unfolds.
